Kharkov - the main economic and cultural center of the North-East of Ukraine. Located in 478 km from Kiev. 

The city's population exceeds 1500 000 people. From 1919 to 1934. Kharkiv was the capital of Ukraine. The city is located in the area between the Uda, Kharkiv, and Lopan. 

 

 

Founded by natives of the Right-Bank Ukraine, and was to come to the defense of the southern borders of the Russian state from the raids of Crimean Tatars. 

 

 

In 1650 became a town. But a military fort quickly became a commercial and crafts center. In 1765 became the center of the province. 

 

In 1805, on the initiative of a prominent scientist Vasiliy Karazin, Kharkiv University was opened. Construction of the Kursk Azov railway spurred intense development of the city. 

 

 

The city has many historical and architectural monuments, parks, public gardens. 

 

Of them stand out Basil's Cathedral and the 17th century Cathedral of the Assumption in 1778 with a bell tower erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon in the Patriotic War of 1812. 

 

 

In Kharkov, more than 20 universities in which they teach more than 300 thousand students, including the Kharkiv University, NTU (KhPI), Aerospace, University of Radio Electronics and many others. In Kharkov, there Circus, Planetarium, Zoo and several botanical gardens, including the oldest botanical garden in Ukraine- Kharkov University botanical garden. 

 

In 1975, Metro opened in Kharkiv. Now there are three subway lines are 29 stations. 

 

 

The city is  almost half split 50 parallel, which runs north on Kharkov theater, in the garden TG Shevchenko. 

 

The city has the large forest area, which extends almost to the border with the Russian Federation. In the park, running a lot of rides and children's railway. In Kharkiv is one of the largest squares in Europe - Liberty Square.
